仮想通貨ウォレット「MetaMask」が一時的にChrome ウェブストアから消える ～現在は復旧

　Ethereum（ETH）用のブラウザーウォレットとして定評のある「MetaMask」は7月25日未明、Google ChromeのChrome ウェブストアからMetaMaskが削除されたことをTwitterにて報告した。削除理由が不明のまま一時的にダウンロードできない状態にあったが、現在は復旧している。この一連の状況をMetaMaskは、Twitterにて逐一ユーザーに向けて報告し、復旧するまでの間、その対処方法などをツイートした。

　MetaMaskは、ブラウザーの拡張機能として動作するブラウザーウォレットのため、通常は対応するブラウザーのストアなどからインストールをして使用するプラグインだ。今回は、Google Chrome向けのMetaMaskが、突然Chrome ウェブストアから、何の説明もなく突然削除されたことから、その理由や原因についてを調査しながら、Twitterにてユーザーに報告がなされた。すでにインストール済みのユーザーや、Google Chrome以外のMetaMaskには影響がないことも同時に報告された。

　取り急ぎMetaMaskは、Chrome ウェブストアからのインストールではなく手動でMetaMaskをインストールする方法について書かれたWebの記事を紹介し対応。

　その後、一時的にChrome ウェブストアにMetaMaskが復活したかのようにみえたが、それは偽のフィッシングアプリであり、ダウンロードしてはならないと、仮想通貨Augur（REP）を開発するAugur ProjectがTwitterにて報告。本物のMetaMaskは削除されているので、この後はMetaMaskの指示に従うようにという注意喚起を行った。これをMetaMaskもリツイートをしている。

　明けて26日、午前4時46分にMetaMaskからTwitterにて報告があり、Chrome ウェブストアに無事MetaMaskが復旧したことを告げた。今回の経緯については、正式にMetaMaskより報告するので、それを待ってほしいというツイートにて、一応の終止符が打たれた。
